They host customers on a fully redundant infrastructure of equipment provided by Cisco, Foundry, Network Appliance and Sun Microsystems.
Storage and Bandwidth
The Globat Gigabyte plan includes 2000 MB of disk storage space and 60 GB of monthly data transfer. Compared to our rank #1 host, LunarPages, this means 250% the disk space and 150% the bandwidth. Most people don't need that much but it's good to know there's room to grow without spending more money.
Globat is able to offer such a huge amount of data transfer because the company buys bandwidth in bulk from Verio and Level3 and it is able to operate with a low profit margin due to the simplicity and efficiency of their network.
Globat Customer Support
This company provides amazing support for its existing customers and does an excellent job in answering most of the questions a potential new client might want to ask through their extensive FAQ section.
Toll Free Numbers - If you are located in the USA or Canada you can just call (866) 841-2300 for 24/7 toll free technical support. If you want to talk to sales and billing the number is (877)2-GLOBAT. There's no toll free number for international customers but you can call the main office number (323) 874-9000 at a regular international call rate.
Ticket System - Globat uses a ticket system to track the queries that customers send through an online form. This is a popular procedure among hosting companies and also very effective because issues sent through the ticket system are solved quickly in the order they are received. The system also keeps track of all the customer's problems since the first day so they can refer to anytime in the future.
Email - This is a good way of getting answers to your questions because you don't have to be a customer to use it. They will be happy to reply all your pre-sale inquiries. Even as a customer you can use the email to communicate with the support team because the same tracking used in the ticket system will be used for further reference. Tutorials - There are tens of Flash and HTML tutorials grouped in 4 categories: Email Clients, FTP Clients, Account Management and Transfer DNS. They are very helpful and easy to follow and understand.
Live Chat - The chat room is a very cool feature because you get quick replies from the tech staff. It is available 24/7.
What we like
- You can have as many MySQL databases as you wish/need. There is also no limit on disk space (of course there is no such thing as unlimited space - is someone promises unlimited space it's a lie - but Globat doesn't restrict your database to 100 MB or so like most hosts do).
- Get a free domain name and a free month of hosting if you pay in advance for an year. If you pay for two years you get 2 free months of hosting and a domain registration for 2 years.
- PayPal payments accepted. Not much to comment here :-)
- Globat introduced a new control panel named Globat Command Console (GCC). It is based on the popular Plesk control panel but easier to navigate and faster. Features 4 main functions: managing email accounts, databases, protected directories and web statistics. Not all functions of the Plesk software were yet implemented and maybe that's why Plesk is still available as an alternative.
What we miss
- No shared SSL server or shopping cart software is included so this plan can not be recommended for an e-commerce website.
